Flashback to the recent loss to the Hornets for a sequence of plays that pretty much summarize the Bulls season.
To begin, Nocioni elbows his way up for a layup, scores, and knocks Jason Richardson to the floor. While the Hornets inbound the ball and dribble up court, Richardson continues sitting on the floor in disbelief, staring down the refs for not calling an offensive foul. The ball crosses mid-court when Richardson decides to peel himself off the floor. Rather than hustle back to the rest of his team, Richardson takes his sweet time strolling up the court and loudly trash talks at Nocioni the entire way. Once Richardson gets just outside the three point circle, the ball is swung over to him and without taking a dribble, he rises up and absolutely BURIES A 3 IN NOCIONI'S FACE.
This is why is still love the NBA. It's also a reminder of what the league is sorely missing.

[And for just under $4000, you too can have a fully restored car from the Tunnel of Love amusement park ride.]
The soap-opera quality clashes amongst its players were a major reason why the NBA thrived in the 80s and 90s. No doubt, the abundance of legitimate superstars and some classic playoff series certainly helped. But it was the undercurrent of strong player personalities that helped fuel the drama of each season. From Jordan, Barkley, Bird, Magic, Isiah, all the way down to Chuck Person, the sheer strength in player personas created an extremely competitive and engaging league.
High quality basketball is derived from players who are passionate about winning and truly appreciate the game. Unfortunately, not enough of today's players share these characteristics. Higher salaries probably have something to do with it. But other factors (hand-checking rules for instance) are definitely at play.
As for Nocioni and Richardson, I'm quite sure they did not exchange a hug, handshake, or even make eye contact after the game. And the league is a better place because of it.
